My Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy stems off of the metaphor that the teacher is the tour guide and the students are the travelers. I see it as the teacher guides the student through amazing new concepts and effective learning just like a tour guide guides travelers through amazing new parts of the world. At the same time, the teacher performs as a facilitator by providing the students with the tools and knowledge they need to excel during independent and future learning.

My Story

My love for teaching started at a young age. I was in fifth-grade and the elementary school that I attended had a program where the fifth-grade students can volunteer to read a book to second-grade classes. I decided to volunteer for the program because I loved to read and thought it would be a cool experience. I walked into the classroom as a young fifth-grade student in front of a whole class of second-grade students. I shockingly felt a sense of ease and calmness in front of the class. I read a book to the students about the importance of sharing with others. As I was reading the story, I can see the engagement and happiness in the students eyes. I knew I was teaching them something meaningful and that they were learning something because of me. At that moment in time, I knew that teaching was my calling. I took my dream of teaching and kept it with me until it became a reality.
