Primary II

JM Hill Elementary School

This section of my teaching experience was a part of my Professional Development School (PDS) program which required me to go into a classroom with a cooperating teacher two days a week. This part of my teaching experience took place in a second-grade classroom at JM Hill Elementary School in East Stroudsburg, PA. During this experience, I integrated technology through developing lesson/unit plans based on school curriculum in various subjects, identified and implemented differentiated instructional strategies, and evaluated different resources and curriculum materials that are effective for teaching specific topics.

Below, you will see artifacts created during my Primary II experience along with a brief description!

This artifact is an advocacy project that was created by my colleagues and myself. It was a project that focused on collaborating with the school and community to plan an event for students, faculty, parents, and the community. The theme that was chosen was "Spring" because this was taken place during the Spring season. The event consisted of art-based activities such as finger-painting flowers and planting their own seeds. Parents and the community could part-take in a raffle to win a prize. It also consisted of games such as kickball and freeze tag.

This artifact was planned to involve students in an inclusive school event. It explains a plan for an event hosted by the school that helps the students learn about being inclusive. The plan explains how students will come into school where there will be a bin where each student will write one reason their school is inclusive. Once there are 100 submissions, there will be a school assembly where inclusive practicing staff talk about being inclusive in schools. Students would receive prizes for participating.

This artifact is a lesson plan I created that focuses on using manipulatives to understand math skills. This lesson uses counter-cubes to help first-grade students understand length and measurement.
